Our annual U10 and U12 race is earlier this year and on February 23 and 24. For our new members, this is a race in which we invite other U10/U12 racers from the coast mountain clubs to participate. We're also hoping to have kids from the Mt. Washington ski programs participate.
The race takes place over two days. On Saturday, we have a slalom event, jump event (not really big), and a speed event (that scares parents more than kids!) On Sunday, we have a Kombi event where the kids run through a bit of an obstacle course.
Every kid who enters is guaranteed to stand on the podium and receive an award at least once.
While some of our newer skiers may be uncertain about "racing", this is a fun, low key event. Racers who are hesitant often have a great experience and we encourage everyone to participate. We're hoping to give the kids, especially the little guys, an opportunity to practice some gates before the race just to see how it feels.
Usually, 90% of our racers participate, which takes up the majority of our coaching staff. Therefore, kids who don't participate but who still want to ski on their designated day will probably not have their normal coach or be in their normal group of skiers.
This race doesn't happen without the volunteer efforts of our U10/U12 parents. Please sign up for the various positions - no experience necessary for many of the jobs (ranging from course work, lunch organization, video crew, etc.) A volunteer chart will be up in the club cabin soon.
Since races aren't included in the regular program fees, there is a charge of $40 per skier for both days. This includes registration, award costs and lunch each day. Lunch for non-racing family members will also be available for $5.00.

YOU NEED TO SIGN UP AND PAY BY SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 10th IN ORDER FOR NAMES TO BE REGISTERED IN TIME WITH BC ALPINE.
We will be having "Race Information" Meetings on both Saturday and Sunday, January 26 and 27. (This is quite early, but we are hosting a different race the following weekend.)
